Gon & Ging

I just wanted to talk about Gon's first meeting with Ging, Hunter x Hunter episode 146. I have been waiting for this moment since I watched the first episode of Hunter x Hunter. I must admit, that as a closet sap and hopeless romantic, I expected their first meeting to make me cry. And I did, but not emotional tears caused by mixed feelings of sadness and joy. But because I was rolling on the floor laughing. The author really eased the tension I didn't even know I was feeling by writing a scene full of emotions without being overly sappy.

I have been so caught up in all the drama and intense action of Gon's life, that I had forgotten that Hunter x Hunter was written for boys. So why would there be some tear jerking scene for Gon and Ging's first meeting? At first, that was what I was hoping for, but I'm glad that isn't what I got.

It was great to see Gon and Ging finally reunited. There was the nervous Ging who would have run, except there was no escape route. There was the Gon we've all grown to know and love who was more concerened with someone else's feelings than himself, because the first words out of his mouth was an apology to his father. And there was the relief and joy of the entire hunter association at seeing Gon healthy again, while still being united over their dislike for Ging. All in all it was a great scene. I watched it about 3 times. Mainly because I was laughing so hard the first time that I didn't get a chance to read all the subtitles properly.

There's nothing more that I can really say except that I love this anime and I can't wait for the rest.
